OCR: EXPLORATIGN Data Pluto was discovered in January 1930 after several vears of searching for planets beyond Neptune. Pluto is so small and so far away that it looks just like faint star even through large telescopes. was discovered by its movement through the sky which is at different speed than the apparent motion of the stars caused by the Earth's rotation. Pluto satellite Charon was not discovered until July 1978 becuase the two bodies ap- pear so close together. Even the best ground based photographs show little or no detail of fPluto or Charon; the Hubble Space Telescope images are much clearer LGRATIGN years
